Birth, Death, & Marriage records from approximately 1700 to present day are indexed and stored in the Town Clerk’s Office. Pursuant to RI General Law the only Vital Statistics available to the general public are death records over 50 years old, and birth and marriage records over 100 years old. Certified Vital records are available upon completion of a form by qualified persons.
Birth certificates are available as a full-size legal document.

Applications are accepted Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm, by appointment only. Please call the Town Clerk's office (401-647-2822 x. 100) to schedule an appointment.
The Town Clerk’s Office is a passport acceptance facility. Normal processing of a passport can take up to 10 weeks. Processing can be expedited to 5-7 weeks for an additional fee of $60.00. Authorization of both parents is required for children under 18 years old.
Age 16 and Over – Total fee is $165.00 ($130.00 application fee payable to US Department of State and $35.00 processing fee payable to the Town of Scituate)
Under age 16 – Total fee is $135.00 ($100.00 application fee payable to US Department of State and $35.00 processing fee payable to the Town of Scituate)
The application fee must be paid by check or money order. The processing fee can be paid by cash or check.

Dogs are required to be registered every April. A valid rabies certificate is required at the time of registration. Scituate residents are entitled to register no more than 3 dogs per residence. The fee is $10.00 per dog. Licenses may be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours. Traditionally, each April the Town holds a rabies clinic where dogs & cats can receive their rabies shot at reduced rates. Licenses for dogs may also be obtained at the clinic. Dates, times, and other details will be posted on the Online Town Calendar.
Pursuant to the Scituate Code of Ordinance a yard sale may be held for the sale of typically second-hand personal, household and/or garden property. Any town resident desiring to hold such a sale on their property must apply to the Town Clerk for a yard sale license. The license fee is $5.00. Each resident is allowed to hold 2 yard sales a year on their property.
Pursuant to RI General Law all businesses in town shall register their trade name in the office of the Town Clerk and pay a one-time fee of $10.00. A Certificate of Trade Name will be issued to you.

Probate records filed in the Town of Scituate are maintained in the Town Clerk’s Office. These records are public records and copies can be obtained for $1.50 per page pursuant to RI General Law. Probate Court is held on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 am in the Town Council Chambers.

Appointment of Executor, Administrator, Guardian, Conservator, Foreign Executor/Foreign Administrator….minimum filing fee for personal estate $30.00, plus $100.00 (creditors notice), and $100.00 (if advertised/not on waiver), and $4.00 surcharge
Inventory Fee -1% of the personal property of the decedent or ward with credit from the original filing fee, maximum $1470.00
Adult Adoption- $30.00 filing fee, $4.00 surcharge (with or without a name change) = $39.00
Advertising - if there is a minor child, if spouse petitions and there are no children, in-law petitions as creditor – 30 days, all guardianships full age and minor, cousin petitions (affidavit of family facts must be presented), all guardianship accounts, order of distribution, allowance for support of family, cancellation of bond, resignation of fiduciary, re-open petitions, determination of insolvent estate, disposal of funds, sale of real estate and accounts = $100.00

Notice of all meetings shall be posted at least 48 hours before the meeting date. This notice shall include the date and time posted; the date, time, and place of meeting; and a statement specifying the nature of the business to be discussed. Town meetings are posted at Town Hall, on the Town Website, & various other locations.
